Syracuse ASP's PS Smart project has received the prestigious national PA OK! award – Working together to create public value – confirming the organisation's role as a reference point for digital innovation in healthcare.
Selected from more than 300 entries, the project was recognised for its ability to transform emergency care through the opportunities offered by Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), improving efficiency and making care more person-centred.
The results are concrete and measurable: shorter times between triage and consultation, an almost halved average stay in the emergency department and a significant reduction in inappropriate return visits thanks to community-based monitoring.
In this context, the collaboration with Medical Cloud played a strategic role in developing digital follow-up after discharge, using the AI assistant Sofia and video consultations.
Sofia guides patients through their journey after emergency department discharge, facilitating communication with the healthcare system and preparing the information needed for a video consultation, while Medical Cloud's platform enables clinicians to carry out structured, secure remote assessments.
This approach has strengthened continuity of care, helping bring healthcare closer to citizens and respond effectively to the needs of the most vulnerable groups.
The PA OK! award therefore represents both institutional recognition and confirmation of a replicable model in which technological innovation, organisation and collaboration between public and private stakeholders create real value for the healthcare system.
