Bluetooth devices, tablets, artificial intelligence and integration with electronic health records to reduce data collection time and improve the security of clinical information.
Syracuse ASP, in collaboration with Medical Cloud srl, has launched the “Bedside vital signs collection” project, a digital solution that enables healthcare staff to collect and automatically record patients' vital signs directly at the bedside using Bluetooth devices such as thermometers, pulse oximeters and blood pressure monitors.
The project was implemented by the organisation's Information Systems team, led by Santo Pettignano, on Medical Cloud's Visita Smart platform. It is already operational in the Orthopaedics ward of Avola hospital, headed by Salvatore Piccione. In view of the positive results, it will gradually be extended across the organisation in the coming weeks.
The technology allows doctors and nurses to measure parameters such as temperature, oxygen saturation and blood pressure directly at the patient's bedside. The readings, checked by staff on a tablet, flow into the electronic health record in real time, eliminating manual transcription and reducing the risk of error. The software also includes artificial intelligence algorithms that can flag anomalies against the patient's clinical history.
Syracuse ASP's Special Commissioner, Gioacchino Iraci, emphasises the initiative's strategic importance: “Introducing this technology is part of the organisation's structural modernisation programme. The aim is to optimise organisational processes through innovation, ensuring smoother and safer management of clinical data for the benefit of the entire provincial hospital network.”
For Medical Cloud srl, CEO Ivano Midulla and Sales Director Giovanni Bennardo highlight how the solution was designed to meet the practical needs of ward work, simplifying access to historical data and improving the traceability of every measurement, with immediate benefits for data security and work organisation.
