Artemis 4554, the Italian Air Force's medical and scientific expedition that took a team of Mission Specialists to the summit of Monte Rosa at an altitude of 4,554 metres, has been successfully completed. Medical Cloud supported the military personnel with Deltacom, the platform developed with Idea srl to monitor vital signs in extreme conditions.
The mission took place in the Alps in summer 2025 to study the human body's physiological response at high altitude and field-test telemedicine technologies applicable to complex operational scenarios. Deltacom enabled real-time monitoring of Mission Specialists' heart rate, oxygen saturation and other clinical parameters, giving the medical team a continuous picture of personnel health during high-altitude activities.
Obtaining reliable clinical data in an environment characterised by low oxygen partial pressure, freezing temperatures and intermittent connectivity is one of the most compelling challenges for applied digital medicine. Artemis 4554 demonstrates how platforms designed for community healthcare can be adapted to very different scenarios while keeping personnel safety and information quality at the centre.
